Top actors Jung Woo Sung and Choi Jin Hyuk have met not as costars, but as director and actor. Choi Jin Hyuk recently starred in a short piece directed by Jung Woo Sung, titled Beginning of a Dream. The piece is part of a brand film project, the ′Samsung Galaxy S4 - Story of Me and S4,′ headed by Samsung and its Galaxy S4 smartphone brand. It is Jung Woo Sung′s second short film, following his first, 4 Love, which recorded 1.8 million views on YouTube.
The scenario came from a consumer contest and is about how modern-day workers dream of leaving this world and entering a world of fantasy. Jung Woo Sung dramatized and directed the piece. Choi Jin Hyuk appears as an ordinary worker named Kim Jun Su, who dreams up a fantasy land of his own. In his fantasy, which first approaches him in the form of a blue fish, Kim Jun Su rides a sports car that runs at supersonic speed, sees a boy floating past on a balloon with more fish, enjoys his time with a hippie band and meets his younger self. This meeting at the end came from Jung Woo Sung′s original idea. An official who worked with the project commented, "The teamwork between director Jung Woo Sung and main actor Choi Jin Hyuk, who are also seniors and juniors as actors, was the best. Director Jung Woo Sung is known to be very kind on set, and his synergy with Choi Jin Hyuk′s quickness, concentration and ability to understand and express his character perfectly, made the piece even better." In the meantime, Jung Woo Sung has been marking a success on the big screen with his film Cold Eyes, which recently passed the 5 million mark, and Choi Jin Hyuk will soon return to the small screen with the drama The Heirs.

Kim Hyun Joong, one of the biggest solo korean artistes in kpop, has shed his flower-boy image from “Boys over Flowers” completely with the release of his new “Your Story” MV. The song, about love-lost and grief over what once was, features love scenes of him and the girl, interspersed with moody cinematic shots of the roaring sea, the stormy wind across his abs, and yes, the piano where they “bonded” over.
Firstly, completely objectively, I have to say this. The cinematography was amazing. I loved it. Even during the love scenes, the mood lighting was great, the shots were on-point. I liked how they tied the love-making on the piano to the waves+wind pounding against it in the juxtaposed scenes. Very subtle yet romantic. It helps that I love the idea of love-making on a piano. But that’s another story altogether.
However, did I think that all the love scenes were necessary? Honestly, I thought that they could have replaced some of it with a bit more of a storyline. For example, I thought the scene where he removed his shirt was too overt and literal. Instead, I was actually hoping for a sorrowful story with this MV. Like the epic Brown Eyes “Already One Year” MV, or Kiss’ “Because I’m a girl” MV. Even Gummy’s “As a man” MV! Something that would make the lovemaking scenes even more meaningful and impactful and romantic. I thought his “Please” MV had more of a storyline, but what I want is something truly epic. Like a mini movie within the song.
Flesh-against-flesh is hot. But beyond that, what we need is the gravitas that belies the action. That elevates it from flesh to passion. Bringing meaning into the movements. I also wanted a better female actress (although this leads me to my next question: who casted her, was it the director, or did Hyun Joong have a say? And, where can we apply for the next role? hahaha)
Seriously though, I have no problems with Hyun Joong doing his love scenes. In fact, as a discerning viewer, I appreciate them haha, as long as they’re done tastefully and sizzingly hot. But what I really wanted was for Hyun Joong to use the MV as a way to showcase his improved acting skills.
To make a huge impact and create a talking point among fans and non-fans, but for the right reasons. I think that this MV has the potential to be controversial. But, it’s not the kind of controversy that I want for him.
Thankfully though, non-fans have actually been less harsh than fans (so far). Maybe it’s because it hurts them less, and actually pleasures them more. Hahahaha (It’s true, my fellow fangirls!! For people who are just casual viewers, this is probably akin to watching Brad Pitt seduce and pleasure the girl in “Troy” for example haha)
From a fangirl standpoint though, I can understand the turbulence of emotions now. Hyun Joong always had this flower boy sweetness to him, no matter how tough he was. But with his various solo works, his looks have taken on a maturity. It’s like his innocence or a part of something you loved is slowly being replaced with a grown-up man who has passion and needs,
But really, has it?
We all know how he is as a person. How since his young days, he’s been tough as nails, working his way to earn his own money while staying on his own after leaving home. How his SS501 members have said that he is actually really manly. Completely different from his pretty-boy looks.
And also how he has never once tried to delude fangirls into believing something that he is not. He has said, more than once, about how he doesn’t want his fans to say “oppa I want to marry you”, and instead encourages all his fans to go find good men to marry, and how he says his pregnant noona fans can come to watch his concerts although it might shock their babies haha.
He has also never pretended to be a man without needs.
With such honesty from Hyun Joong even from way before, I’ve always said to my friends that being a Hyun Joong fan requires a really strong heart. A true Kam Shim Jang. Because he never takes the predictably safe route. I think this MV is another thing he went ahead to do, simply because it is in line with his beliefs that we should all live our lives to the fullest, both him and us. We say we don’t mind if he gets a girlfriend, or gets married. And this is a true test of that. Can we really remain as fans even in the face of this? Can we really handle it once he announces his girlfriend, or his wife? Haha
Let’s also not forget that he is a Gemini, who constantly seeks versatility and creativity. And, he shares the same June 6 birthday as HyunA, who is also known for enjoying putting on sexy performances and pushing the boundaries as such.
I don’t think we should belittle any fangirl’s pain after watching this, accusing them of not being true fans. I actually think they are pretty much serious about him, to be so hurt by this! A non-fan wouldn’t care. I’ve always thought that liking a celebrity very deeply is akin to having a crush on someone, just that this crush is pretty much beyond reach. So, it makes sense how much the heart must hurt, seeing your crush doing unholy things with another female. But really, what matters most is how you choose to respond to these feelings and reflect them into positive things.
I think Hyun Joong, despite his maturing needs and adulthood, is still the Hyun Joong we love (and continue to love). Looking at his adorableness on Barefoot Friends (which to me is a real-time reflection of how his personality is like now), he is still the same cuteness + manliness + bravery + determination personified. A little more tanned, a much shorter hairdo. But, the inner core is still the same.
Musically, for me, I thought this urban R&B remix of “Your Story” was really great (I am still repeatedly streaming the MV on Youtube as we speak!), and it’s something I can listen to over and over again.
But I think he needs to decide on and confirm his own sound and flavour, for something that is uniquely Kim Hyun Joong. He needs a solid differentiation from other solos and amazing stand-out tracks with a greater depth to his voice, to be regarded as truly great by non-fans and the general public.
I love love love “Please”, “Be good to me” etc, and it would be great if he goes that route musically, while still hitting it up for dance tracks. But I would also have loved for him to incorporate an even stronger korean sound within at least one of his tracks, to tie-in with the traditional-modern inspiration of “Unbreakable”, and make the imagery even stronger.
The next challenge for Barefoot Friends, Hyun Joong’s new ensemble variety show, will be to create their own song and write their own lyrics. It’s not an easy challenge, compounded by the fact that it’s actually something Infinity Challenge (Korea’s top variety show) has created into an anticipated bi-annual event.
Seeing how there will be a lot of comparison to IC, I really want Hyun Joong to rock this. I want him to show everyone what he’s made of. I want people to sit up and take notice and go, “Wow. Kim Hyun Joong totally made me view him in a different way”, just like how GD did when he took part in IC’s songwriting fest.
Maybe he could incorporate the MV storyline concept I mentioned above, if they have to do mini-MVs for the songs.
All I want is good things for Hyun Joong.
I want to see the praises rising, and I want him to excel in his work, and continue to do what he loves.
I want it to be truly “good things happening to good people”.
As long as Hyun Joong stays healthy, positive, humble, kindhearted, humorous, I believe that success will continue to come his way.
Go chase your dreams Hyun Joong! We’ll be here with you (as long as you don’t do a Yoo Ah-in, Bae Yong Jun or Jo In Sung and film an R-rated flick. We’ll really need to have a good talk then, young man. Haha)
More power, more hope, more success to you, Kim Hyun Joong!

Rookie group Crayon Pop is on its way to the top of music charts with its latest addictive track, “Bar Bar Bar”.
Crayon Pop’s new single “Bar Bar Bar” was released in June, but since then it has steadily risen on most music charts. The song, which initially ranked outside of the top 100 songs, is now ranking at #12 daily and at #25 on weekly charts, and even topped Melon’s daily MV chart.
A representative stated, It’s very rare to see a song climbs up the charts because it is normally pushed out of the rankings as time passes. Considering Crayon Pop is a rookie group, such a performance is quite remarkable.”
The Divine Five’s latest masterpiece, “Bar Bar Bar,” is currently growing at an unstoppable rate, and is well on its way to becoming the biggest K-pop sleeper hit of 2013.
I’m gonna break it all down for y’all. At the start of the month, “Bar Bar Bar” became the group’sfirst top 100 entry on the Gaon chart. Last week, it had jumped to No. 54, and by the time the new Gaon chart is released this Thursday, it’ll be even higher. The song has been consistently rising on the Melon real-time chart for over a week now, and currently sits at No. 13. It’s also No. 17 on the instiz iChart, indicating its high placement on various digital charts across Korea.
A lot of the success of “Bar Bar Bar” is through viral exposure, with the story version, dance version, and practice version of the music video pulling in over 1.8 million Youtube views (and counting) from the group’s official channel. It’s also topped Melon’s MV chart, while The Pope’sMusic Core comeback stage has amassed close to 500,000 Youtube views.
The Korean media is now publishing articles about The Divine Five’s skyrocketing popularity, and the success of “Bar Bar Bar” is getting the group some big promo opportunities. They recently performed at a pool party event with 4minute, and also landed a performance slot onSketchbook.
Me and my fellow Slayon Pope devotees all knew that one day the Crayolegends would release the next “Tell Me” or “Gee” to become the nation’s new girl group, but now that it’s happening it feels so surreal. I don’t know if I’m ready for this. At the rate they’re growing, it’ll be like Spicemania all over again. Slayon’s debut album will likely outsell Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and by the end of the year they’ll be placed alongside the likes of Elvis and Madonna as one of the greatest and most influential artists of all time.

TVXQ‘s Changmin will be partnering up with MC Kang Ho Dong for a new KBS variety show! The variety show will mark Kang Ho Dong’s official comeback to KBS as well as Changmin’s first experience as a fixed MC. Since his debut with TVXQ nine years ago, Changmin has maintained his focus as a singer until now.
That’s all about to change with the New Year, as it’s been revealed by a KBS PD that the two are working on a new show slated to be released mid-January. SM Entertainment confirmed, “Changmin will be joining Kang Ho Dong’s KBS variety show.” The content of the show, however, will be kept in top secrecy. “Even within our company, only a portion of the staff now. We’re keeping the entire thing under wraps.” Although this will be his first variety outing, he’s well known among the SM crowd for being the wittiest out of all of the artists.
A number of sources in the industry has revealed that Changmin will join Kang Ho-dong in his return to KBS, the first fixed panel of the singer’s career. Changmin has focused on his music career ever since his debut on 2004. Changmin’s addition has reportedly excited the producers as well. Changmin has not revealed much of his appearance, other than that of a singer. He is virtually an untouched character in variety shows. While his image may be that of a strict and straight-line model, he is known to be a joker among his friends. He also has a lot of laugh. Many are expecting to see the other side of the pop prince in the new show, and many are anticipating him to be the ‘next Lee Seung-gi’. KBS has reportedly finished the main casting of the show. The production is preparing for the mid-January opening, with their first filming on the early January.
Kang Ho-dong’s new KBS show is virtually obscure. Rumors of the show being a talk show is circulating, but producers are remarkably secretive with the disclosure of their information. KBS Entertainment bureau has been reportedly discussing the Saturday airing of the new show. A representative has commented, “the new program is secretive even to the insiders” and “the related parties are especially careful to prevent gossips and controversies from unwarranted leaks and misunderstandings.”

It's been a year since f(x) released their last song, "Electric Shock" so everyone was getting pretty antsy about their comeback. We should probably keep in mind that "Electric Shock" was released last summer and "Hot Summer" was released in the summer of 2011, which makes it obvious what comeback schedule SM has for them. Yeah, I just realized that too, so go figure.
f(x)'s new album will be called "Pink Tape" and SM has decided to go with an indie art house feel for their teasers this time. I am so in love with everything about it. Take a look at their first teaser, which was released on July 16th: How very French existential film of them. What I love about f(x) is that, since they're considered a girl version of SHINee, they get to be more left of center or more "indie" if you want to call it that. To me they bring to mind a hipster female SHINee, which means that they tend to dress and sound more interesting than most other girl groups. They get to be experimental and out there and I'm all for that.
I'm pretty sure that SM's art directors love when f(x) makes a comeback, because they get to try out all their more off the wall ideas and no one bats an eyelash, whereas if SNSD did this, people would freak out (like they did for "I Got A Boy"). That's ok, girls. Leave all the edgy stuff for f(x), we (and they) don't mind. Image teasers have been coming out left and right since the 16th, and today it was announced that their first single will be called, "Rum Pum Pum". The actual Korean title is "First Wisdom Tooth". Who knows why they felt the need to change it for English speakers, but we'll go with it. I like "Rum Pum Pum" a lot more, don't you? f(x) will have their first comeback stage on July 25th at M! Countdown. Teaser pics featuring mostly Krystal with EXO's Kai were also released, which could very well mean he'll be in their mv.
Physical and digital copies of their second full album, "Pink Tape", will be released to the public on July 29th. Stay tuned for a Video of the Day: Rum Pum Pum review post with screencaps after the video is released! Are you excited for f(x)'s comeback? What do you think of their teasers? On the 22nd f(x) revealed its ‘Rum Pum Pum Pum’ music video teaser through its official website, YouTube channel, and Facebook, giving fans a hint of what they will be showing with the next album.
In the 2-minute-long teaser video, which is a little longer than other usual MV teasers, each member shows off pretty face and retro styles. The song is more romantic and soft than what f(x) has sung.
Meanwhile, f(x) will showcase its title track ‘Rum Pum Pum Pum’ on the 25th on ‘Mnet M Countdown’ stage, and its second official album ‘Pink Tape’ will be released on the 29th.

Back at the World Figure Skating Championships for the first time in two years, Olympic champion Kim Yu-na looked as if she'd never been away. "It has been very long," Kim said. "I'm very happy to skate well here in Canada again. So thank you."
It wasn't just her margin of victory -- with 218.31 points, she was a whopping 20 points ahead of defending champion Carolina Kostner -- but the stunningly simple beauty of her performance. There is a regal elegance to her skating, fitting for the woman who is nicknamed "Queen Yu-na," and no one comes close to comparing. In fact, it's really not even fair to make anyone else try. Kim is technically superior. She's like a bumblebee when she jumps, daintily going from flower to flower. Her spins are quick and tight, with intricate positions that don't seem humanly possible. But it is her presentation that makes her incomparable.
Figure skating is meant to be a blend of art and athleticism, and Kim poured her entire soul into her feet. She didn't feel her music, from "Les Miserables," she was part of it. With each soft tilt of her head, she brought back memories of the little girl who began skating for the pure love of it, before medals or titles or the expectations of an entire country and sport ever entered her mind. The audience was on its feet long before she finished her final spin, and Kim clapped a hand to her mouth as she looked around the arena. After getting her medal, she was serenaded with cheers of "Queen Yu-na!" Kim's longtime rival, Mao Asada of Japan, was third. The U.S. women didn't win any medals, but they got the next-best thing, reclaiming a third spot for the Sochi Olympics. They needed to finish with a combined placement of 13, and Ashley Wagner was fifth and Gracie Gold sixth.
"We got three spots back and we came here to do that," Wagner said. "Mission accomplished." Having the maximum three spots at the Olympics and world championships used to be a birthright for the American women. But they lost the third spot at the 2008 world championships and have never gotten it back. Wagner was most affected by the loss of the third spot, missing the Vancouver Olympics because she finished third at the U.S. championships in 2010. She'd made it her mission to get it back, saying she didn't want anyone else to experience that disappointment.
This certainly won't go down as one of Wagner's best performances. She two-footed and underrotated the second jump in her double axel-triple toe loop combination, and also got a deduction for taking off on the wrong edge of her triple lutz. She was so slow for most of the program the Canadian Mounties were considering giving her a ticket for loitering. And she tripped on her footwork, the equivalent of falling over a crack in the sidewalk. But it was good enough to get the job done.
It's the best finish for the U.S. women since 2006, when Kimmie Meissner won the title and Sasha Cohen finished third. But that worlds is also the last time the Americans have been on the podium, their longest drought since World War II. "I always said my main goal coming into this worlds was getting the three spots back. That was my goal," Wagner said. "Getting on top of the podium or on the podium would be icing on the cake. For us, what we accomplished, with this strong international field, is more than standing on top of that podium." Gold tried not to focus on winning back that third spot -- no easy thing, considering she and Wagner were asked about it constantly -- but she did more than her share. Gold has struggled with inconsistency throughout her career, but she was solid in her first appearance at worlds. As always, it was her jumps carrying her program. Asada might have better springs, but even she can't match Gold's ferocity.
She attacks each jump like a matador going after a bull, going full-speed into the takeoff and soaring so high above the ice the judges had to crane their necks to see her. That power put her on the edge of danger, but she fought for every single point. She two-footed her double axel, but it could have been a lot worse after how crooked in the air she was. And cats are jealous of the reflexes she showed in saving the landing of her triple salchow. Her spins were solid, though they were all done in the same side of the rink, a choreographic no-no. And speaking of choreography, she doesn't let the music bother her one bit. Pick a song on any iPod and she could have been skating to it for as much as she acknowledged it.
